Economic inequality is the unequal distribution of income and opportunity on the basis of race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality,  disability, and education. Those who suffer from economic inequality often face barriers accessing healthcare, education, water, sanitation, and even food. Studies have shown that it can impact an individual’s mental and physical well-being, leading to a lower life expectancy. People who experience poverty are often left with little opportunity to escape due to systemic oppression, which creates large wealth divides, making it even more difficult to bridge the gap between the rich and poor. Covid-19 has exacerbated these inequalities, and now, more than ever, people have fallen deeper into poverty, yet the wealth of billionaires has increased.

This year, it is Zora’s goal to underline these disparities and fight economic inequality by educating on the subject and by magnifying different experiences through the arts. We aim to begin building a bridge over the expanding gap between the lower and upper classes by revealing the real life effects of economic inequality.
